We are Proposing a New Web Standard for Data Privacy Compliance
Current methods of communicating data privacy practices, like lengthy privacy policies, are inadequate and lack transparency. Additionally, no standardised, machine-readable format exists for automated systems to monitor compliance with regulations like GDPR and CCPA.
This draft proposal introduces data_privacy.txt, a simple, standardised text file that websites can host in their root directory to provide concise, understandable data privacy information. It complements traditional privacy policies, improving user trust, transparency, and regulatory compliance.
Our Next Step
We will establish a diverse, interdisciplinary working group to lead the development of the data_privacy.txt standard. This group will be responsible for drafting the initial specification, soliciting feedback from stakeholders, and refining the final version for standardisation.
If you are a data privacy or legal expert, technical developer, cyber-security professional, cross-industry member, or part of a regulatory body, we encourage you to apply for the working group. Please contact us at [email protected].
